I’ve been preaching through the 10 Commandments and last Sunday addressed the 4th Commandment. As I was thinking about how to preach this Commandment in the weeks leading up to Sunday, I was reminded of a story Don Whitney tells about the first church he pastored. It was in Arkansas, and periodically, when they would have special Sunday night song service, someone would select a song from their hymnbook that always left Don shaking his head.
The song is entitled, “Ain’t It a Shame!” No doubt some of the verses may have been added to this version, but I remember Don quoting most of these from memory. Rather than transcribe them for you, I invite you to listen for yourself. Actually, I edited the version below, excising several verses, including one on stealing.
Suffice it to say that this is one song we won’t be singing on Sunday…or any other day.
