I had the privilege of serving on the Southern Baptist Convention’s Calvinism Advisory Committee under the leadership of David Dockery and Frank Page. The statement that resulted from our work has been widely distributed and analyzed. Today, the Executive Committee of the SBC released the video of panel discussion held in the Exhibit Hall prior to the first day of the 2013 SBC in Houston last month.
No one is under the delusion that all of the concerns over the resurgence of historic Calvinism in the SBC have been satisfactorily addressed. But, as the panel discussion demonstrated, Southern Baptists should be more encouraged than we have had reason to be in recent years that we are moving more closer and closer toward the kind of love, trust and humility that are required to have ongoing, profitable conversations about abiding concerns.
I am grateful to Dr. Page for his leadership in this area and look forward to the future as gospel-loving Southern Baptists continue to cooperate in spreading the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ to the nations.
